Biography
2024-2025
Indoors – competed in 5 meets in her first year at ACU, with a regular season highlight placing 5 th in the TTU Red Raider 600 yard run. In her first WAC Championship, she ran the anchor leg on the 4 th place 4x400 relay and the 800 leg on the 8 th place distance medley relay.
Outdoors – She ran in 7 outdoor meets. She opened the season with a 6 th place in the 400 at the ACU Wes Kittley Invitational. She followed that with an 8 th place finish in the TTU Masked Rider 400 in a season best time of 56.74. She ran the 3 rd leg for the 7 th place 4x800 relay at the Texas Relays. At the end of the season, Jalyn ran a season best time of 2:12.75 in the 800 in the prelims to make finals. However, she was not able to finish the finals 800 in the hot, muggy conditions in Arlington that evening.
Before ACU
In her senior year at Flower Mound HS, Jalyn finished 3rd in the District 6- 6A 400 and came very close to going to the 6A state meet after make the finals in the open 400 and finishing 6th at the Region 1-6A meet, as well as anchoring the 6th place 4x400 relay. That year, Jalyn was the MVP for the T&F team at Flower Mound HS. During her junior year, she placed 5th in the District 6-6A 400.
Personal
Jalyn graduated from Flower Mound HS in the spring of 2024 – she was on the AB Honor Roll every year in HS. At ACU, she is a Government and Political Science major and a recipient of the LYNAY (Love Your Neighbor as Yourself) scholarship. Jalyn is an active volunteer with the Office of Spiritual Life Chapel and at the Hillcrest Church of Christ. Jalyn’s parents are James and Mishawn Childers – James is the City Manager of Flower Mound. She has one brother, Justus, and 2 sisters, London and Alexis. Her family has a long history in college athletics – her Uncle, Ricky, played football at the University of Oklahoma; her Grandfather, Rickey, played football at the University of Tulsa; and her Father played football at Midwestern State. Her late Great-uncle, Terry Childers, was a 1973 ACU graduate and served on the ACU Board of Trustees for 23 years. Her Great-aunt, Essie Childers, graduated from ACU in 1975 and was the recipient of a Distinguished Alumni Citation in 2021.
Why did you choose ACU? I wanted to be in an environment where both my spiritual and academic needs could be met. I have wanted to run track at ACU for years, and the team is very supportive. I also have family in Abilene, so I always have someone there for me if I need anything.
What is your favorite thing at ACU? The Christian environment and the incorporation of morality and community in the decisions and career paths we take.
