2025-2026:
Cross Country – competed in the first 2 XC meets of the season.
Indoors – competed in 4 meets, starting out with a 4th place finish in the TAMU McFerrin-12 Degree Invitational 1000. Finished 10th at the TAMU Charlie Thomas Invitational 800 in a season best time of 1:51.73. At the WAC Indoor Championship, Evan just missed the finals, finishing 10th in the 800 prelims, but he scored at his first indoor championship by running the 800 meter leg on the 2nd place distance medley relay.
Outdoors – an injury reduced Evan’s outdoor competition to 3 meets that included a 4th place finish in the 800 at the Joe Gillespie 800, and a 9th place finish in the 800 at the Baylor Michael Johnson Invitational. At the WAC Outdoor Championship in Arlington, he finished 9th in the 800 prelims, missing the finals by less than 2/tenths of a second.
Before ACU: Evan finished a strong senior season for Rockwall-Heath HS by finishing 4th in the UIL 6A 800 with a personal record time of 1:51.89 – a time that was the #6 best time in Texas and #97 in the U.S. for high schoolers. He completed his HS career as the school record holder for Rockwall-Heath HS in the 800. Earlier in the year, he finished 2nd in the 800 at three major indoor meets in the Southwestern U.S., the Wes Kittley Invitational at Texas Tech, the Arkansas HS Invitational in Fayetteville, and the Texas A&M University HS Invitational in College Station. His time at the Wes Kittley – a 1:54.35 – was the #4 best indoor time in Texas and the #89 best indoor time in the U.S. In the fall of his senior year, Evan qualified for the UIL 6A XC Championship for the first time in his career. As a junior, he finished 7th in the Region II-6A meet in the 800. In the summer of 2024, he qualified for the USATF Junior Olympic Championship and placed 2nd in the 800 and 5th in the 1500 competing for the Texas Titans TC. He was also a 3-time All-District competitor in golf. He played in the 6A State Golf Tournament days after placing 4th in the UIL 6A T&F meet.
Personal: A 2025 graduate of Rockwall-Heath HS, Evan finished his HS career honored academically - a 2-time recipient of the Superintendent Scholar Award and Academic All-State 2nd team. His parents are Roxanne and Ryan Martin and he has one brother, Luke. His Grandfather, Leroy Ryza, played football at Rice University. At ACU, Evan intends to major in Kinesiology. He has also been active as a volunteer with Best Buddies and in the children’s ministry at his home church, Lakepointe Church.
Why ACU? Evan chose ACU because God is at the center of this school and everyone I have met at ACU has been super-helpful and nice. Also the T&F/XC coaches and team are great and ACU had the degree plan I want.
My favorite thing about ACU? I appreciate the Christian environment at ACU.
