D’nara Jones, the new Horizontal/Vertical and Multis Coach. comes to ACU from her time at the D1 Training facility in Frisco, Texas, where she was assistant manager, sports performance and strength & conditioning coach. In that role, Jones focused on improvement athletic performance, strength, agility and overall fitness. She monitored and tracked athlete’s progress and adjusted training plans.
Prior to D1, she was at the University of New Mexico as the assistant coach/head coach for short sprints and jumps for the 2023-24 school year. In that year, her athletes produced 59 personal best performances, a USATF Indoor Championship 8th place finish in the long jump and a 6th place USTFCCCA ranking in the outdoor long jump, both from Elizabeth White.
Jones went to UNM from Illinois State, where she was an assistant coach working primarily with the team’s horizontal jumpers. In the 2022-23 season, she coached the program’s jumpers to two school records, six top-10 school performances, 15 top-10 Missouri Valley Conference finishes and 50 personal records.
She spent the 2021-22 season as an assistant coach at Loyola Chicago, working with the Ramblers’ sprinters and jumpers. In her time at Loyola, Jones’ student-athletes totaled three school records, eight all-time top-10 school performances and 63 personal bests across the indoor and outdoor campaigns.
From 2019-21, Jones served as a graduate assistant at Saint Louis University, where she led the Billikens’ sprinters and hurdlers. In her time at Saint Louis, Jones’ student-athletes set 16 school records and achieved 37 personal bests.
A Tacoma, Wash. native, Jones spent time as a student-athlete at Clackamas CC in Oregon City, Ore., Portland State and she finished her college eligibility at the University of Alabama. She still ranks ninth in school history in both the indoor and outdoor triple jump at Portland State.
Jones earned her bachelor’s degree in human environmental sciences from Alabama in 2016 before completing her master’s degree in leadership & organizational development while coaching at Saint Louis. She also holds the Level 1 Coaching Certification from USATF and a T&F Technical Certification from the Track and Field Academy.
