Maryville College (2017): Carter played six games in his freshman season at Maryville College, an NCAA Division III institution in Maryville, Tennessee, catching two passes for 11 yards.

High school: Played for the undefeated Class 6A Division II state championship DeSoto Eagles. Carter was on a team that beat Abilene High School, 49-45, in the third round and went on to beat Cedar Hill in the quarterfinals, Klein College in the semifinals and Cibolo Steele, 38-29, in the state championship game.
