Preston Vancil enters the season penciled in as the Wildcats’ No. 1 starter.
2008 (Junior):
Vancil’s best effort of the season was in the Wildcats’ final game of the season, a 9-8 loss to Southern Arkansas in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional. Vancil got the start in the game to keep ACU’s season alive, and he responded with 7 2/3 innings of spectacular work. Vancil allowed just six hits and one earned run (four runs overall) while walking just two batters and striking out eight Muleriders. Vancil ? who entered the 2008 season slated to be the Wildcats’ closer ? instead moved into the starting rotation and finished the season 6-2 with a 5.40 ERA while allowing just 26 walks and striking out 60 batters.
2006-07 (American River Community College):
In two seasons at American River, Vancil was 3-4 with five saves in 58 innings of work with a 4.19 ERA. As a sophomore in 2007 he was 3-2 with four saves and a 2.90 ERA in 40-1/3 innings of work.
High School :
Two-year letterman at West Campus HS where he honorable mention all-conference as a senior.
