Smith is slated to be the Wildcats’ starter at first base in 2008 after starting 50 games there last season. 2007 (Junior): Played in all 54 games last year with 50 starts. Had a solid season, finishing with a .316 batting average, two home runs and 31 RBI. He was solid defensively, finishing the season with a .993 fielding percentage (only three errors). Smith had three three-RBI_games: 4 for 4 with two runs scored and three RBI on Feb. 23 vs. Northeastern State; 1 for 4 with one run scored and three RBI_in a March 1 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State; and 2 for 4 with two runs scored and three RBI_in an April 24 win over Texas-Permian Basin. 2005-06 (Shasta College): As a sophomore, Smith hit .315 with five home runs and 35 RBI_to earn first team all-Golden Valley Conference honors at first base. As a freshman he hit .394 with seven doubles, three triples and 33 RBI to help Shasta finish 19-17 overall. High school: As a standout at South Medford HS, Smith earned first team all-conference and academic honor roll honors. Personal: Born 14 October 1985 . 2004 graduate of South Medford High School.
