Wildcats Look to Continue Success at Bayou City Collegiate Classic in Houston

HOUSTON — Abilene Christian men's golf makes the trip to H-Town for the Bayou City Collegiate Classic at Westwood Golf club from Monday to Tuesday. The Wildcats have competed in the tournament in each of the past nine seasons, placing in the top five in the last two years.
The action begins Monday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start at the par-72, 7,184-yard course. Golfers will play two rounds on the first day of play, followed by the third and final round on Tuesday.
ACU will travel with a lineup of Luis Buech, Rex Hargrove, Jack Hollingsed, Maximilian Björnström and Kade McDonough, with freshman Cooper Watson making his collegiate debut as an individual. The Wildcats opened the season at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational last week, tying for 12th place at 61-over 913.
ACU joins a 13-team field featuring nine other teams representing the Lone Star State. Host Rice, Houston Christian, Incarnate Word, Lamar, Prairie View A&M, Sam Houston, Texas Southern, UT Arlington and UT Rio Grande Valley each hail from Texas.
Middle Tennessee, Samford and Valparaiso round out the competition, while Houston, Texas and Texas A&M will be represented with individual golfers.
Buech led the Wildcats in a tie for 35th place at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational, scoring 13-over 226 with six birdies. Rex Hargrove followed in a tie for 40th at 15-over 228 with seven holes under par in MacTier, Ontario, Canada.
Jack Hollingsed registered ACU's best round of the tournament with a 2-under 69 second round at Öviinbyrd Golf Club. He drew for 45th place at 16-over 229 and added two eagles in the first round. Hollingsed, a junior, has competed at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic in each of the past two seasons.
Björnström tied for 56th at 19-over 232, and McDonough rounded out the lineup in a tie for 64th at 23-over 236.
