ACU Returns to Action at Utah Tech, Southern Utah

ST. GEORGE, Utah - Nearly two weeks since it last stepped on the court, Abilene Christian women's basketball will return to the hardwood with a pair of games in Utah this week. The Wildcats will take on Utah Tech at 8 p.m. (CT) Thursday before playing Southern Utah, their most recent opponent, in Cedar City at 3 p.m. (CT) Saturday.

ACU last played the Thunderbirds on Jan. 17 to wrap up the first round of Western Athletic Conference play. It was off on Jan. 22 for its bye before inclement weather in the Big Country twice postponed its Jan. 24 matchup with Tarleton State. A rescheduled date is to be determined between the Wildcats and the Texans.

The Wildcats remain the hottest team in the conference as winners of their last four games and eight of their last nine. ACU sports a 5-1 mark in WAC play as it embarks on its hottest start to conference action since 2019-20, when it went 16-4 in the Southland. The Wildcats' lone WAC loss came at Utah Valley on Jan. 3 by a 69-67 decision.

California Baptist tops the conference standings at 7-1.

ACU aims for its fourth win in a row versus Utah Tech and its fourth victory in its last five meetings with Southern Utah. The Wildcats, a perfect 8-0 in games played Monday to Thursday this season, have lost their only two matchups at the Thunderbirds' America First Event Center.

The Wildcats' two largest margins of victory against Division I opponents this season have come versus the Trailblazers and the Thunderbirds. ACU opened WAC play with an 81-51 win at Utah Tech's Burns Arena on Jan. 1 before trouncing Southern Utah 82-54 at Moody Coliseum in its last time out.

Four Wildcats scored in the double digits in each game as ACU combined to force 43 turnovers. Between both contests, it connected on 46.5% of its shots with a .350 showing from three-point range and a 19-of-22 mark from free throw line.

ACU touts the conference's top offense (75.0 ppg), defense (57.7 ppg) and field goal percentage (.443). It will meet a Southern Utah team ranked second in scoring (73.4 ppg), field goal percentage (.418) and three-point percentage (.322).
