
ACU Falls to #2 Texas, #3 TCU in Opening Weekend

The ACU men's tennis team began its 2026 spring season with two of the toughest opponents anyone will play this season with 7-0 losses to No. 2 Texas on Saturday in Austin, and to No. 3 TCU on Sunday in Ft. Worth.
Newcomer Tomas Quesada recorded the best performance of the weekend. At the No. 2 singles position, Quesada took UT's Abel Forger to a tiebreaker in the first set before losing in straight sets. The following day against the Horned Frogs he earned a first set win over Oliver Bonding. After dropping a nail-biting second set which went to a 7-4 tiebreaker, Quesada ran out of gas in third and final set to ultimately lose 4-6, 7-6 [7-4], 6-1.
Luis Jose Nakamine, the Wildcats' new star who transferred from Baylor, played a pair of nationally ranked opponents at No. 1 singles. Nakamine lost to 39th ranked Sebastian Gorzny of Texas, 6-0, 6-3 on Saturday, and then took on 6th ranked Duncan Chan of TCU, falling 6-3, 6-3 on Sunday.
The Wildcats continue their trial by fire to kickoff the 2026 season by visiting Oklahoma on Sunday, Jan. 18. First serve is set for 12 p.m. in Norman, Okla. The Sooners were ranked No. 21 in the preseason national poll.
ACU's first home match is Thursday, Jan. 29 vs. Wichita State to kickoff a nine-match home schedule.
