ACU Falls To Louisiana To Close SFA Tournament

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Abilene Christian lost its final match of the SFA Tournament to Louisiana by a 3-1 decision at Shelton Gym on Saturday afternoon.

ACU returns to action at the New Orleans/Nicholls Crossover next weekend. It faces Alabama A&M and Grambling State in Thibodaux, La. on Friday before meeting Arkansas-Pine Bluff in New Orleans on Saturday.

The Wildcats gained 17 kills from junior Aubrey Beaver, who totaled 54 kills across the weekend's three matches. The Cal State Fullerton transfer is up to 99 kills this season through seven matches. Beaver added three service aces, while junior Abby Christian matched her career best with five aces, tied for fourth-most in a four-set match in ACU's Division I history.

With 11 digs, redshirt freshman Brennan Ramirez has tallied double-digit kills in all but one match this year. Junior Rachel Koss churned out 28 assists, and sophomore Annaleise Sevier totaled eight kills, three block assists and five digs. Koss has 238 assists thus far in 2025.

The Ragin' Cajuns were boosted by 18 kills at a .353 clip by Cailin Demps, with a team hitting percentage of .315 to the Wildcats' .127. While ACU recorded nine service aces to Louisiana's three, the Ragin' Cajuns outblocked the Wildcats, 15-5. Lindsey Henry collected one solo block and eight block assists.

Louisiana led for the entirety of the opening set, going ahead 22-15 with a 4-0 run in the late stages. ACU answered with a 4-0 rally of its own to claw closer, but the Ragin' Cajuns scored the final three points for a 25-19 win to get things started. Beaver provided four kills and two service aces in the set.

The Wildcats kept things closer in the second set, using a string of three straight aces by Christian to grab a 17-13 lead. Trailing 19-16, the Ragin' Cajuns limited ACU to just three more points for the remainder of the set as they rattled off a 9-3 run. Demps gave them seven kills alongside a pair of block assists in the 25-22 victory.

ACU staved off a sweep with a 25-19 win in the third set thanks to seven kills from Beaver and five by Sevier. The Wildcats fought their way back from a 15-10 deficit at the midway point with a 13-2 rally that included two more aces by Christian. After logging three kills during the run, Beaver sealed the victory with an ace of her own.

The Wildcats couldn't build on their momentum as the Ragin' Cajuns jumped to a 9-6 lead in the fourth set after a 4-0 streak. A trio of 3-0 rallies ballooned their lead to 22-13. Despite five Beaver kills and four by junior Alexis Strong, Louisiana clinched the match with a 25-15 victory thanks to five kills from Harley Krause.
