Stone Earle, who returned to Abilene Christian after three seasons at the FBS level, has been named the Wildcats' starting quarterback for Saturday's season opener at Tulsa, as announced by head coach Keith Patterson.
Earle played in 11 total games for ACU over the 2020 and 2021 seasons, including starting the first seven games in 2021 before suffering an injury. He passed for 1,216 yards and 13 touchdowns with just four interceptions.
The Ft. Worth-native then transferred to UNT where he played in eight total games across two seasons for the Mean Green. Earle spent 2024 at Marshall where he won the starting quarterback job in fall camp. He started the first five games for the Thundering Herd, including at national champion Ohio State. He finished with 673 passing yards and seven touchdowns.
Earle's father, John, and uncle, Guy, both played offensive line in the NFL in the mid-1990s.
Backing up Earle at quarterback are BYU transfer Cade Fennegan, redshirt senior Quayde Hawkins, and East Carolina transfer John David Black.
The Wildcats face Tulsa on Saturday at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+, with audio streaming on the ACU Sports Network.
