ACU Earns First Road Victory of Season at Lamar

Box Score BEAUMONT - Abilene Christian men's tennis captured its first road victory of the season with a 6-1 win over Lamar at the Thompson Family Tennis Center on Friday afternoon. The Wildcats earned their second win over the Cardinals in as many weeks following a 6-1 decision in Abilene on Feb. 22.

ACU improved to 9-5 with its ninth victory in its last 10 matches. The Wildcats opened the season with four consecutive matches on the road against power conference competition, dropping each one. They have since built plenty of momentum as they face Division I opponents for the remainder of the campaign.

It was Lamar that started on the right foot, as Fabian Anthin and Guy Dagan earned a 6-3 win over Daniel Morozov and Merse Deli in doubles play. Ethan Scribner and Benjamin McDonald evened it up with a 6-1 triumph over Lukas Hamacher and Leon Nickel, with the doubles point coming down to Court 3.

There, Matheus Lima and Martin Delnido captured the point for the Wildcats as they beat Louis Drapeau and Santiago Ledesma, 6-3.

ACU remained strong in singles, where Dennis Dutiné worked a 6-1, 6-4, win over Drapeau. Tomas Tischner set the Wildcats up one point away from a win as he took down Anthin, 7-5, 6-3 for his ninth win in his last 10 matches.

Lima secured the ACU victory with a 5-7, 7-6(5), 10-8 triumph over Dagan before McDonald beat Ledesma, 7-5, 2-6, 6-0, and Morozov defeated Hamacher on Court 1, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3, for good measure. Hamacher had his three-match winning streak ended.

The Cardinals got a point back with Stefano Chappuis' win over Delnido, 7-6(5), 6-4. It snapped a seven-match winning streak for Delnido. Chappuis won his fifth in a row and improved to 6-3.

Next, ACU makes the quick trip to Houston as it meets Rice at 3 p.m. Saturday at the George R. Brown Tennis Center. The Owls are 8-4 with victories over LSU and Texas Tech to their name.
