ACU Falls to Utah Valley in WAC Tournament Semifinals

ABILENE - Abilene Christian volleyball's 2025 campaign came to a close with a 3-0 loss to top-seeded Utah Valley in the semifinals round of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament at Moody Coliseum on Friday night. The Wildcats wrap up the season with 13 wins, their most in seven years.

Hannah Gonzalez, the team leader with 295 kills this season, paced ACU with nine against the Wolverines at a .500 attack percentage. It ties the eighth-most kills in a season in the Wildcats' Division I era. Gonzalez bolstered her program-record 29 solo blocks this year with one on Friday.

Hadlee Welch recorded eight kills and two blocks to cap her WAC All-Freshman season, and senior Ashli Edmiston registered seven kills.

Rachel Koss notched 20 assists for 912 on the year, fifth-most in the Wildcats' DI record book. Brennan Ramirez, another WAC All-Freshman honoree, had 15 digs to give her 478 for the season, ranking third in ACU's DI history. Abby Christian tallied her 32nd service ace of the year to land in sixth in the Wildcats' record book.

The Wolverines delivered the first blow in the opening set, using a 9-1 rally to take a 13-5 lead. The Wildcats answered with an 8-3 run to get within three points at 16-13. ACU held serve with Utah Valley to make it a 23-20 game, but the Wolverines scored two of the final three points to clinch a 25-21 victory.

Edmiston registered four kills in the set, while Gonzalez and Welch added three kills and a block each.

Both teams traded points through much of the second set, with the Wildcats scoring three points in a row to grab a 17-16 edge. The Wolverines notched three straight points of their own to move in front, 21-19, before ACU fought back to even the game at 22. Utah Valley scored the final three points of the set for a 25-22 win.

Gonzalez and Welch stayed hot for the Wildcats with four kills each.

The third set featured another close start before the Wolverines built a 7-0 run to tip the scales in their favor at 11-5. Utah Valley used another 7-2 rally to strengthen its lead to 19-10. It rattled off five points in a row to force match point at 24-12, but ACU battled back with four points in a row, featuring two kills by Edmiston. A Wolverine kill gave them a 25-16 victory to clinch the match.
