The 2010 Abilene Christian football team, which won the Lone Star Conference Championship, will be honored as part of its 15-year anniversary during the Wildcats' Homecoming game on
Saturday against Tarleton State, presented by Greater Texas Ford Dealers.
ACU finished the regular season a perfect 11-0 that season, which was a program first, and included a 10-0 run through the LSC, to claim the program's second conference title in a three-year span.Â
"I think our guys have earned the right to call themselves the best in the toughest conference in the country," said then-head coach Chris Thomsen after his team
finished off the undefeated regular season.
The Wildcats climbed as high as No. 2 in the Division II national rankings with victories over four top 15 teams: No. 9 Washburn, No. 6 Texas A&M-Kingsville, No. 8 Midwestern State, and No. 14 West Texas A&M. ACU earned a first round bye in the NCAA Division II Playoffs, losing in round two to No. 8 Central Missouri.
Sophomore quarterback Mitchell Gale was up for the Harlon Hill Award as the nation's top player, and seven players on that team wound up playing in either the NFL or Canadian Football League: Aston Whiteside, Trevis Turner, Charcandrick West, Daryl Richardson, Taylor Gabriel, Clyde Gates, and Raymond Radway.
ACU's 2010 LSC championship team will be recognized during halftime on Saturday.
