Wildcats Fall at Tarleton State

STEPHENVILLE — Tarleton State outscored ACU 23-8 in the second quarter Thursday night, spurring the Texans to a 79-54 win over the Wildcats in a Western Athletic Conference contest at Wisdom Gym.

The loss drops the Wildcats to 13-7 overall and 2-3 in the WAC, while Tarleton improves to 12-9 and 3-3. ACU will be back in action Saturday at Texas-Arlington in a game set for a 2 p.m. tip at the Mavericks Activities Center.

ACU trailed 22-16 after the first quarter, but the Texans heated up in the second quarter, and the Wildcats couldn't keep up. In the second quarter, Tarleton State hit 9 of 15 shots from the floor, including 4 of 7 from 3-point range. Jakoriah Long had 10 of her 12 points in the decisive second quarter.

The Wildcats couldn't get their offense going in the second 10 minutes. They were 3 of 11 from the field, including just 1 of 5 from 3-point range. The teams played to a pretty even second half (TSU outscored ACU 34-30 in the final 20 minutes), but the Wildcats couldn't overcome the decisive second quarter.

Meredith Mayes and Emma Troxell led the Wildcats with 16 points each, while Erin Woodson added 11. ACU's leading scorer, Payton Hull, missed her second straight game because of an injury.
