ARLINGTON, Texas - Abilene Christian women's basketball's
Payton Hull earned Jersey Mike's A Sub Above Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors for a program-record sixth time in her career, the conference announced Monday. She collected 23 points and nine rebounds in ACU's 67-57 loss to Texas Tech on Sunday.
Hull was previously even with ACU Division I scoring leader Alexis Mason, who was named the Southland Conference Player of the Week on five occasions.
The junior guard became the second consecutive Wildcat to be recognized by the conference after teammate
Meredith Mayes was named the WAC Player of the Week on Dec. 8. It's the first time the Wildcats have received the award in back-to-back weeks since Hull did so as a freshman on Nov. 27 and Dec. 4, 2023.
Against the Lady Raiders, Hull extended her streak of consecutive outings with 10 points or more to 30 games, a record in the program's DI history. It was her fourth 20-point effort of the season. Hull made a career-high nine free throws with a team-high three steals. Her nine rebounds matched her career best as she played the game's entire 40 minutes. ACU held undefeated Texas Tech to a tie for its fewest points in a game this season.
The Peaster, Texas native led the WAC in scoring for the week and paces the conference with 17.9 points per contest, ranking 51st nationally. Her 179 points and 60 field goals are tops in the WAC, and her .417 field goal percentage is good for fifth.
Hull ranks fourth in the conference with a .795 free throw percentage, while her 2.2 steals per game rank seventh. Her 2.4 three-pointers per game are second-most in the WAC.
The Wildcats return to Moody Coliseum this weekend for the ACU Christmas Classic. They'll take on Montana at 5:30 p.m. Friday before meeting Buffalo at 3 p.m. Saturday. Tarleton State is also in the field and will play Buffalo at 7:30 p.m. Friday ahead of a matchup with Montana at 1 p.m. Saturday.
