ACU women's basketball head coach Julie Goodenough announced the addition of transfer Natalia Chavez from the University of New Mexico and Volcano Vista High School in Albuquerque, N.M. Chavez, a 5'10 wing comes to Abilene after redshirting her freshman year at UNM before appearing in 12 games in the 2023-24 season.
A graduate of Volcano Vista High School where she won back to back 5A State Championships, Natalia averaged 16.7 points per game, 1.7 assists per game, 2.8 rebounds per game, and 3.0 steals per game as a senior, earning Metro Player of the Year, first team all-state & all-district honors. She was also named the 1-5A District Player of the Year in 2019-20 & 2020-21, along with first team all-state and first team all-metro honors during that time span. The 1,000 point scorer was also an ESPY Award nominee for her game-winning half court shot to win the 5A title.

"I chose ACU because of the close-knit family atmosphere and how much the program gives back to the community. I also like the drive the coaches have to win championships," said Natalia Chavez one why she chose ACU.
"Natalia is a welcomed addition to our program and I am excited for our Wildcat fans to meet her! We are thankful to add another player with college playing experience. With Natalia's length she is able to defend inside and out. Her quick release from the 3pt line and ability to score off drives will really help us stretch our offense out," head coach Julie Goodenough said.
