ABILENE – Five Abilene Christian track and field athletes compete in the NCAA First Round West Meet this week, starting Wednesday.
Â
Athan Huelskamp gets ACU started on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Fayetteville, Arkansas, competing in the men's shot put.
Â
The top 12 from each of the field events that ACU competes in this week will advance to Eugene, Oregon, and the National Championships.
Â
Also on Wednesday,
Cooper Goggans opens in the men's 800 meters at 7:50 p.m. Goggans must be in the top three of his heat or be one of the next-best six times to be included in Friday's national quarterfinals. From the 24 quarterfinalists, 12 advance to the national championships: the three heat winners and the next three fastest times.
Â
The women begin on Thursday with
Kaitlyn Callaway representing ACU in the javelin at 2 p.m.
Â
If Goggans qualifies in the 800, he will be the only ACU athlete on the docket for Friday, running at 7:05 p.m.
