ACU Announces Track and Field Staff Change

ABILENE – Abilene Christian announced on Monday the resignation of Jerrod Cook as head track and field coach.

Cook will remain on staff as an assistant coach, working with throwers.

Nathan Meeuwenberg has been named interim head coach through the outdoor season. A national search for the next head coach will begin immediately after the conclusion of the outdoor season.

"I want to thank Jerrod for leading our track and field program over the last five seasons following a very successful stint as an assistant coach at ACU," said Zack Lassiter, vice president for athletics. "He has made a significant impact on the track program during his time at ACU. Track and field has an incredible legacy here at ACU and I look forward to finding the next leader of this storied program."

Cook began as head coach before the 2020-21 season and has been on staff for 18 seasons. He has coached three NCAA Division I All-Americans and 11 Division II national champions as coach of the throwing group over his ACU career.

"I love ACU track and field," Cook said. "This program has been special to me over the past 18 years, especially the amazing student-athletes who pour their heart and soul into what they do every day. The journey, moments, and memories that I have shared with them will never equate to any title, accolade, or award I've had personally as a coach. I'm thankful for the administrators who have believed in me to help me reach this position."

Meeuwenberg recently completed his first season at ACU as the men's and women's cross country coach.

"ACU has quickly become a home for my family and me," Meeuwenberg said. "Coach Jerrod Cook hired me and I am extremely grateful to him for what has already been a fun journey. I am excited to help propel the program forward in the short term and hopefully set it up for continued success for years. I am humbled that the Athletic Department thought of me to help in this way. Zack Lassiter's support means everything and I thank him for the opportunity. I am excited to play my part in fulfilling the ACU mission and, as always, Go Wildcats!
