Men's Tennis Adds Impact Freshmen

ABILENE – Abilene Christian men's tennis stocked its roster with a trio of strong freshmen for 2023-24, picking up Merse Deli, Denis Dutine and Martin Delindo.
Deli is a 6-1 incoming freshman from Budapest, Hungary, whose brother, Mihaly, enters his senior season this fall. He attended Csik Ferenc Altalanos iskola es gimnazium
"Merse has a little bit more of an aggressive game," said ACU Head Coach Juan Nunez. "Very confident. His fire toward tennis is pretty new still. He got away with just talent for most of his life but as he got older he fell in love with working hard. He just kind of found his new passion for pushing himself. His ceiling is endless. Same kind of build as his brother. Tall and long with pretty good firepower and really good hands. He won the national tournament in doubles but lost in the semifinals of singles. He's somebody that's competing at all levels and thrives in that competitive environment which is good for the guys on our team. His personality is a perfect fit with the team."
Dutine is a 6-2 incoming freshman from Siegen, Germany, who attended Privatgymnasium Schwetzingen. He currently is ranked 10th in juniors in Germany, has a No. 15 National Ranking in U18 and is 206th in the German men's national ranking
"I'm pretty excited about Dennis," Nunez said. "He is a top-ranked player for his age group in Germany. Just a kid that is put in a lot of time and effort and he's starting to play some pro tournaments already. One of the things that impressed me the most is his discipline and how mature he is for his age. I think he will be someone who can immediately come in and fit our culture, thrive on our atmosphere and continue to try to build here. Super excited. His upside is pretty incredible. His game is pretty well-rounded but he's going to improve."
"I chose ACU because I believe that it is the best college that can help me to reach my athletic and academic dreams," said Dutine. "Moreover, I feel blessed to have met the tennis coach, Juan Nunez, who I really like very much, and the tennis team which made me feel comfortable to join the Wildcats. I truly believe that God has a plan for each and every one of us. He guided my steps to Abilene Christian University. Since God wants us to be amazing, I am sure that together with his wonderful team I will reach the pinnacle of success for ACU."
Deli and Dutine were key, early additions to the roster with Delindo coming on board later in the summer.
"Early on, we brought on two guys who were really excited about college tennis," said Nunez. "They invested a lot of time and effort into getting better and continue to try to push themselves in the ITF Futures level. Just to have those guys with those kinds of aspirations is exciting. Both are on their way up. Seeing college as a way to improve and accomplish goals and dream for their future."
Martin Delindo is a 5-9 incoming freshman from Tandil, Argentina.
"Martin from Day One was a perfect fit for our team and the culture we're establishing," Nunez said. "He's played in a lot of international junior events and was ranked as high as 178, which is incredible. He completes a really strong recruiting class. These three guys are super quality human beings and they compete at a high level."
"I chose ACU because I had a great connection with the coach since the first time we talked, and the place and the facilities are beautiful," Delindo said. "I think ACU is an ideal place to pursue my academic and athletic goals."
