ABILENE – The Detroit Lions of the National Football League recently announced the hiring of Abilene Christian Director Associate Athletic Director of Strength and Conditioning Corey Smith.
Smith is an assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Lions.
"Corey did an unbelievable job during his time here at ACU developing the players on our team in the weight room," said ACU Head Football Coach Keith Patterson. "He helped establish a strength and nutrition program for our team that our players believe in and we can build upon. He is a great teacher and will continue to have great success in the NFL with the Lions, I couldn't be more excited for him and his family."
Smith brought a wealth of experience at the FBS level, including stops at Iowa, Missouri, Memphis, and Texas. Most recently, Smith spent the last year at Texas Tech, where he was responsible for the design of the Red Raiders' annual training plan, implementing nutritional protocols and writing return-to-play protocols.
Smith holds certifications from the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association, the American Heart Association, Functional Range Conditioning, and Precise Nutrition. He received his Bachelor's in Exercise Science from Illinois State in 2012 before earning his Master's in Health and Sport Sciences from Memphis in 2015.
