Box Score 2 HUNTSVILLE – Sam Houston used two big innings to take a doubleheader sweep from Abilene Christian on Saturday, 5-1 and 4-3.
Joe Redfield homered to give the Bearkats an early 1-0 lead in the first game but
Tanner Tweedt tied the game in the top of the second with a home run down the left-field line.
SHSU erupted for four runs in the bottom of the second, highlighted by a two-run single by Redfield.
Tyler Morgan (2-2) and
Luke Krkovski fired five shutout innings from there but the Wildcats couldn't find an offensive answer. ACU had three hits – a home run and a single by Tweedt and a base hit by
Logan Britt.
ACU had three home runs in the second game but all came with the bases empty.
Crew Parke homered in the third and Britt and
Bash Randle added solo shots in the sixth and eighth for a 3-1 lead.
The Cats retired the first two Bearkats of the ninth inning but Carols Contreras homered and Jake Tatom added a bases-loaded double for the game-winner.
Blake Anderson (4-1) took the loss.
ACU had six hits in the second game.
Maddox Miesse had two while Britt, Tweedt, Parke and Randle added one each.
The teams make up Friday's rainout on Sunday at 1 p.m.
