Box Score ST. GEORGE, Utah – Abilene Christian sealed a spot in the Western Athletic Conference postseason tournament with a 5-2 win at Utah Tech on Friday.
The Trailblazers salvaged a pair of singles wins after the Wildcats had sealed the team win.
"Good win for us today," said ACU Head Coach Bryan Rainwater. "They forced us into some tough situations on all courts. This was a good match to win, heading into Seattle and it gave us a little more confidence as we get ready for the conference tournament."
ACU swept the doubles to pick up the early point.
Maryjoe Crisologo and
Maria Cascos won at second doubles, 6-1, before
Andrea Guerrero and
Eva Arranz sealed the point at No. 3 with a 6-0 victory.
Masha Vrsalovic and
Olivia Sears scored a 7-5 win at No. 1.
Guerrero stormed to a 6-1, 6-0 win in fifth singles for the 2-0 lead and Sears won on the third line, 6-1, 6-1. Arranz got the clinching honors with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6. Cascos also claimed victory on the fourth line, 6-2, 6-4.
ACU, now 10-12 overall and 4-4 in the WAC, finishes the regular season at Seattle University in a 5 p.m. (Central) contest on Sunday.
