LOS CABOS, Mexico – Abilene Christian finished the Cabo Classic with its best round of the tournament on Tuesday.
The Wildcats shot 298, led by Logan Diomede's one-over-par 72. Diomede put together four birdies, including a pair of par-5s and one on the 181-yard par-3 11th hole. That team total was comparable to that of No. 17 Alabama for the day.
"It was a better day all around for the Wildcats," said ACU Head Coach Tom Shaw. "We got off to a better start and Logan Diomede continued his good play from yesterday."
Gregoire Hoyeau had three birdies on his final round 75 with Karson Grigsby getting two in his matching round of 75. Brian Comegys shot 76 on Tuesday and Zane Heusel had two birdies in his round of 86.
Diomede was ACU's top finisher on the leaderboard with a 54-hole total of 228 with Hoyeau and Comegys tied for 67th at 233. Grigsby finished with a tournament total of 237 with Heusel coming in at 244.
The Wildcats placed 15th at 921. Top-ranked Vanderbilt won the tournament at 834, beating Ole Miss by a dozen strokes. Vandy's Wells Williams won the tournament by five strokes at 10-under.
Diomede led the Wildcats with nine birdies for the tournament with Grigsby rolling in six. Heusel had four and Hoyeau and Comegys each had three.
ACU returns to action Monday at the Grand Canyon Invitational.
"We were able to tie the number 17 team in the country, the Alabama Crimson Tide, which was a good testament to how well the guys played in the final round," said Shaw. "Hopefully, we have a little bit of momentum as we head into Grand Canyon's event next week."
