Wildcats Complete First Round at Cabo

LOS CABOS, Mexico – Brian Comegys sits in the Top 25 after the first round of the prestigious Cabo Classic on Sunday.

Comegys had back-to-back birdies on holes 2 and 3 and finished the round two over par at 73 on the 7156-yard, par-71 Twin Dolphin Club.

Zane Heusel also had a pair of birdies and finished at 75 and is tied for 40th.

"Brian Comegys had a very solid round today," said ACU Head Coach Tom Shaw. "I'm very pleased he handled a big-time event the way he did. Zane Heusel just had one or two miscues today but looks poised to have a great round tomorrow. If we can get the bottom part of our lineup to hit it better off the tee then we'll be in a better position to move up the leaderboard."

Grégoire Hoyeau finished at 81, Karson Grigsby at 82 and Logan Diomede at 84.

Uncharacteristic misfires off the tee proved costly to the team, Shaw said.

"It was a very tough setup in terms of hole locations today," said Shaw. "It was essential to be very precise with your approach shots and be able to judge the speed of your putts correctly or else you're going to look silly. What made it more difficult was our poor accuracy off the tee. It was uncharacteristic because we are typically a solid team off the tee."

ACU is 15th heading into the second round, finishing at 311. Top-ranked Vanderbilt leads the star-studded standings at 280.
