ABILENE – Abilene Christian football finalized the dates of the non-conference schedule for 2023.
Â
All game times are pending.
Â
ACU plays five non-conference contests, beginning with a Thursday night season opener at home against Northern Colorado on Aug. 31. That game originally was scheduled for the Saturday of Labor Day weekend but both teams agreed to move it to Thursday night.
Â
Northern Colorado is back on the schedule for the first time since 2016 when the Bears won a 55-52 shootout in Abilene.
Â
After a Sept. 9 visit to Prairie View, which lost last season to ACU in Abilene by a 21-13 count, the Wildcats are home against 2022 FCS runner-up Incarnate Word on Family Weekend on Sept. 16.
Â
"We are excited to renew the series with UIW," said ACU Head Coach Keith Patterson. "The past two seasons they have been the standard for FCS football in the state of Texas. It's a great opportunity to assess where we are as a program!"
Â
ACU is 7-4 against the Cardinals but UIW has won the last two meetings, including a 31-24 victory in San Antonio in 2019.
Â
The Wildcats take a break from the ASUN-WAC schedule on Sept. 30 to visit North Texas in Denton. The Mean Green got the win in the last meeting in 2019.
Â
ACU wraps up the season with a Nov. 18 trip to College State to take on Texas A&M for the first-ever football meeting between the two teams.
