Tweedt's pair of homers guides 'Cats to sweep of Lumberjacks

ABILENE – Senior Tanner Tweedt hit a pair of home runs, Max Huffling tossed four relief innings, and the ACU baseball team came away with a series sweep of Stephen F. Austin on Sunday afternoon at Crutcher Scott Field. The Wildcats (13-3, 3-0 WAC) trailed 3-1 in the third inning, but rallied to take the lead, and ultimately led by as many as five runs on their way to a 9-6 victory over the Lumberjacks (6-10, 0-3 WAC). ACU starts WAC play 3-0 for the first time in its brief two-year stint in the league, and is off to its best start through 16 games since moving to Division I. ACU finishes off a three-game sweep of SFA for the third-consecutive time in the last two seasons.

How It Happened
- Grayson Tatrow got the scoring started on Sunday with a single down the left field line to score Garrett Williams. ACU led 1-0 after one inning of play.
- SFA quickly took the lead in the top of the second inning off starter Austin Glaze, scoring three times on an ACU error and a two-run single. The Lumberjacks led 3-1, but the Wildcats would respond with a big third inning.
- Miller Ladusau, who had a ridiculous eight-hit weekend, tripled to lead off the third, then was brought home by a Logan Britt single in the infield. Tweedt then stepped in and launched the first of his two home runs to put the Wildcats back in front, 4-3.
- Max Huffling eventually took over for Glaze on the mound, and got the game to the home fifth, where the offense added to the lead. Tweedt led the inning off with his second bomb of the day, this one to dead center, and it was followed by a Jake Skaggs single through the left side to plate Tatrow. It was a 6-3 lead all the way til the seventh inning.
- A Crew Parke single through the left side scored Maddox Miesse and a Garrett Williams groundout scored Skaggs. ACU padded to its lead, 8-3, with just six outs to go on Sunday.
- SFA responded with a sacrifice fly to score a run in the top of the eighth to cut it to 8-4, but the Wildcats responded with a Tatrow rbi-groundout to answer back, 9-4, heading to the ninth.
- The Lumberjacks made it interesting off Huffling in the ninth, loading the bases with no one out, but after a two-run single off new pitcher Blake Anderson, the right-hander got the final three outs, including the final two on a double play, to end the ball game.

Stat Pack
- Parke had a brilliant 4-4 day at the plate, driving in a run as well. It's a career-best outing for the first-year Wildcat.
- Ladusau, Tweedt, and Tatrow all tallied a pair of hits, with Tweedt driving in a team-high three runs. Tatrow brought in a pair on Sunday.
- Tweedt's homers were the second and third of his young senior season.
- Glaze got the no-decision in four innings in the start, allowing no earned runs (three unearned) on two hits with five strikeouts. Hufling got the win in relief (3-0), tossing four frames allowing three earned on three hits with a pair of punch outs.
- Anderson got the final three outs, earning the save in the process. Despite the right-hander entering in a 9-4 game, the tying run was in the on-deck spot when he entered the game, earning him the save.

Beyond the Box Score
- Tweedt recorded his first multi-homer game of the season, and the first since he hit two last March against Marist, a game in which the team hit a program-record 10 homers.
- ACU is off to a 13-3 record through the first 16 games of the season, the best start since in the Division I era of the program (moved to D1 in the 2013-14 academic year).
- ACU has now won nine in a row against SFA dating back to last season; ACU went 6-0 against the Lumberjacks last year.

On Deck
- ACU will wrap up the 12-game home stand with a midweek date against Oral Roberts on Wednesday, March 15. First pitch is set for 12:05 p.m., and the game will air on WAC International.
