PHOENIX– The Wildcats struggled to get their offense going on Friday as they dropped both games of their doubleheader in the GCU Invitational. Colorado State put up seven runs and the Lopes put up eight runs while holding the Wildcats to five hits on the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1
- The Rams got on the board in the first inning driving in a run to take the 1-0 lead.
- ACU was able to load the bases in the top of the second but were unable to get in a run and had runners at second and third in the top of the third without bringing a runner home.
- Colorado State knocke3d in two more in the bottom of the third, taking the 3-0 lead.
- CSU drove in four more in the bottom of the sixth to go up 7-0.
Game 2
- Grand Canyon got out to the hot start in game two with a three-run homerun and an RBI single to take an early 4-0 lead.
- The Lopes tacked on another run in the second inning with an RBI triple to go up 4-0.
- Riley White looked solid over innings three and four, but back-to-back homeruns in the bottom of the fifth gave GCU the run-rule victory.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Miranda Lista went 2-3 against Colorado State to get to 20 hits on the season. She also added another multi-hit game, bringing her total to seven for the year, the most on the team.
- The team's 11 strikeouts against GCU were the fourth instance this season where ACU had double-digit strikeouts at the plate.
- This is just the second time this season where the Wildcats have been shutout in back-to-back games.
