CORPUS CHRISTI – Abilene Christian closed out the H-E-B Tournament of Champions with a 4-1 win over New Mexico State in the fifth-place match on Saturday.
The Wildcats won the doubles point with wins from Dario Kmet and Daniel Morozov in first doubles and Savan Chhabra and Ethan Scribner in second.
Benjamin McDonald cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win in fourth singles, Kmet won in straight sets at No. 1 and Mihaly Deli closed out the day with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 6.
"It was good to see Ben and Mihaly win today," said ACU Head Coach Juan Nunez. "I've been saying since Colorado, that everybody on the team can step up and win the big matches. Last night it was Ethan and today it was Michy. Just really proud of our guys to come into today – the third match in two days – and get a win against a conference opponent."
The Wildcats improved to 8-4 on the season and head to Waco next weekend to take on Brown at 5 p.m. on Friday and Baylor at noon on Saturday.
