ARLINGTON, Texas – Abilene Christian's
Daniel Morozov and University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's Emilien Burnel and Sam Whitehead have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Men's Tennis Players for the Month ending on Tuesday, Oct. 31.
Morozov (Jr.) was awarded the Men's Singles Player of the Month after going 4-2 throughout October. In the Ron Wesbrooks Invitational hosted by Lamar, Morozov collected three wins against Prairie View A&M (6-2, 6-0), Texas A&M – Corpus Christi (6-4, 5-7, 11-9), and Lamar (6-3, 7-5) before falling in the Flight One Championship to Rice's Emir Sendogan (3-6, 2-6). Morozov then took on the ITA Texas Regionals hosted by TCU where he held a first-round bye. Following the first-round bye, Morozov took on and defeated Pietro Perego from Incarnate Word, 7-5, 6-2. Morozov's tournament was, however, cut short after having to retire due to injury while battling Texas A&M's JC Roddick.
"Just super proud of the way Dani has been stepping up this semester," said ACU Head Coach Juan Nunez. "His maturity is really showing and I'm just glad he's getting rewarded for it. He has a very specific vision of what he wants/needs to do and he's doing it the best he can. Having him at that level just makes our entire team that much better."
