ABILENE - ACU heads on the road tomorrow for their final non-conference weekend of the season in Fort Worth. The Wildcats will participate in the Horned Frog Invitational where they will face Texas State, TCU, and Louisiana. The team is coming off of a tough loss to open their slate against Oklahoma on Tuesday and will look to bounce back with a couple of wins this weekend.

A LOOK AT THE 'CATS

  • TRIPLE THREAT: Madeline Guffy notched a double-double in each of the last three matches. She continues to have success running the offense, alongside Madison Rohre, and has matched that with her defensive presence as well. Her dig numbers are in the top three on the team and on top of her assists and digs she is leading the team in aces with 18 on the year.
  • BLOCK PARTY: Braden Bossier has started the season with 24 blocks through nine matches including an eight-block outing against Missouri State. She is quickly moving into the ACU record books and is currently ranked ninth all-time for total blocks with 150 and eighth all-time for block assists with 142.
  • FRESHMAN PHENOM: Ashli Edmiston continues to make her mark for the Wildcats through three weekends of action. The freshman leads the team in both kills per set (2.45) and points per set (2.85). She opened the season with a double-double, she now has three on the season, and has five double-digit kill performances.
  • DIGGING DEEP: The team posted their most digs in a four-set match with 89 against the Lobos on opening weekend and matched that total in a defensive slugfest against Tulsa last weekend. Logan Browning set a new career-high with 27 digs against Tulsa and five different players registered double-digit digs in the match. The Wildcats are averaging 16.53 digs per set as a team which is ranked 21st in the NCAA.
  • THE BLAIR ERA: Alisa Blair returns to the helm of a program for the first time since spending three seasons as head coach with the Hill College volleyball program where she went 83-38 during her tenure. Blair was instrumental in the success of programs at Central Oklahoma and, most recently, SFA as an assistant and will now strive to bring that same success to Abilene.

SCOUTING TEXAS STATE (6-3)

  • The Bobcats come into the weekend with a 6-3 record including two Power Five victories over West Virginia and Wake Forest.
  • The team is hitting at an elite level through nine matches with a .302 hitting percentage, ranking eighth in the nation. They are led by Tessa Marshall who is hitting .451 on the season and Janell Fitzgerald hitting .336 on the outside.
  • Alyssa Ortega leads the team in digs per set at 3.48 and as a team, the Bobcats average 13.73 digs per set.

SCOUTING TCU (3-5)

  • After playing their first five matches of the season at home, the Horned Frogs are coming off of their first road trip last weekend where they went 2-1 at the NC State Classic. The team had a tough schedule out of the gate with their first two matches coming against then-No. 3 Wisconsin and No. 5 Minnesota, both three-set losses.
  • TCU is hitting .197 on the year and is led in kills per set by Julia Adams (3.66) and in hitting percentage by Sarah Silvester (.339).
  • The team has struggled some defensively averaging just 11.90 digs per set and 1.53 blocks per set, both ranking below 250th in the NCAA.

SCOUTING LOUISIANA (4-3)

  • The Ragin' Cajuns went 2-1 in each of the first two weekends and dropped a match last weekend to Texas A&M to get to 4-3 on the season. The team dropped a four-set match to fellow WAC school UTRGV on Sept. 2.
  • Senior Kelsey Bennett has carried the bulk of the offensive output with a team-leading 92 kills on a .271 hitting percentage. Coco Gillett and Kara Barnes also have totaled over 50 kills on the season and are hitting .140 and .322, respectively.
  • Bennett and Gillett also lead the team on defense, each averaging over three digs per set. The team has a balanced defense at the net and average 2.1 blocks per set.
