ABILENE, Texas – Abilene Christian got back in the win column on Friday night with a 6-3 victory over Lamar. The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead that they saw the Cardinals erase before bouncing back to earn the win.
Sidney Holman-Mansell went the distance in the circle for her 11
th win of the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Wildcats got on the board first with an RBI single from Rose Gonzales in the second inning.
- Miranda Davila drove in two runs in the bottom of the third to put the Wildcats up 3-0.
- Lamar loaded the bases on two singles and a walk in the top of the fourth. A bases loaded walk followed by a single tied the game at 3-3.
- ACU would retake the lead on an errant throw that allowed Gonzales to come home followed by an RBI single from Mercedes Eichelberger to put the lead at 5-3.
- Calie Burris gave the Wildcats an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth with a solo homerun to put ACU up 6-3.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Sidney Holman-Mansell tallied a complete game as well as eight strikeouts on the night. She now has 111 strikeouts on the year.
- Calie Burris reached base in all four plate appearances. She went 2-2 with a double and a homerun while also reaching on a hit by pitch and an intentional walk.
- Miranda Davila tallied her second multi-RBI game on the year, driving in two runs in the third.
- Both Davila and Miranda Lista have recorded a hit in each of their last five games with a plate appearance.
- Rose Gonzales has drawn six walks in the last four games.
ON DECK:
- The Wildcats and Cardinals will complete their series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
