DENVER – The Western Athletic Conference announced its' weekly list of track and field award winners on Tuesday afternoon, with a pair of Wildcats garnering recognition.
Annina Brandenburg collected her third consecutive Women's Field Athlete of the Week honor, while
Jack Marshall was named the league's Men's Track Athlete of the Week for the first time.
A week after breaking the school record in the women's discus, Brandenburg did so again in Lubbock last Friday with a distance of 58.18m (190' 10") to put herself in third place on the national leaderboard this spring. She went on to win the women's shot put with a distance of 16.55m (51' 11 ¼"), rounding out another strong weekend and setting her second new lifetime best of the day.
Marshall finished a tenth of a second off his personal best in the men's 100 but still came in seventh place with a time of 10.45. He later paved the way for the Purple and White in the 200, picking up a fourth-place finish (20.88), and he currently is the conference leader in both events.
Including Brandenburg's unprecedented four total weekly awards, the Wildcat track and field programs have picked up nine total honors so far in their first season in the WAC. The Wildcats look to continue their momentum into this week's Carl Knight Invitational and Multis, which will take part on the campus of SFA in Nacogdoches.
