ABILENE, Texas – A sloppy fifth inning for the Wildcats was the difference in the game as two early errors and seven hits from the Mavericks allowed UTA to plate nine in the frame. With the Wildcats unable to answer in the bottom of the inning, UTA came away with the run-rule victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The teams seemed to be locked in a pitchers' duel early with both teams scoreless through four innings.
- The Wildcats went with a committee approach in the circle with Sidney Holman-Mansell going two scoreless innings followed by Laurén Schiek who needed just eight pitches through two innings to get her six outs.
- The Mavericks put together nine runs, all unearned, in the top of the fifth inning after a throwing error allowed their first base runner to get to third followed by a dropped fly ball in the outfield to put the first run aboard. UTA put together seven of their 10 hits in the fifth.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- The Wildcats drew two walks and had three batters hit by a pitch to put runners on base but the team did not come up with a hit in five innings.
- Miranda Lista saw her seven-game hitting streak come to an end but a drawn walk extended her on-base streak to eight games.
ON DECK:
- The Wildcats travel to Tarleton this weekend to take on the Texans who are coming off of a sweep of Sam Houston in their last WAC series. ACU will look to get back in the win column and come away with another series win over the Texans. All games will be available on the WAC Digital Network.
