Tatrow tallies three hits in Baylor’s first-ever visit to Abilene

ABILENE, Texas – The ACU baseball team saw a three-game win streak come to a close on Wednesday, falling 6-4 to Baylor at Crutcher Scott Field. Centerfielder Grayson Tatrow turned in his second three-hit game in four days to highlight the effort for the Purple and White.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Bears plated two runs in the opening frame, but ACU got one back with a single off the bat of Tommy Cruz in the home half.
  • An RBI groundout helped Baylor extend the lead to 3-1 in the top of the second inning.
  • The Wildcats came to life following the seventh-inning stretch, as Tatrow doubled home a run to cut the deficit to one.
  • Three batters later, second baseman Mitchell Dickson beat out an infield single to plate Tatrow from third and tie the game at 3-3.
  • Baylor's Casen Neumann came up with a pinch-hit three-run homer in the eighth, putting the Bears in front again by a tally of 6-3.
  • Tatrow came up with another RBI hit in the bottom half, plating Cruz from third with a single through the right side.
  • ACU would get no closer, as Baylor was able to hold on in the ninth inning.

STAT PACK:
  • Genner Cervantes gave the Wildcats three innings out of the bullpen, fanning four Baylor hitters while allowing just one run.
  • Drake Boggan was the next reliever for ACU, and he responded by retiring all six batters he faced.
  • Connor Carlton followed by striking out the side in the seventh, doing so on just 13 pitches.
  • Mitch White was the final arm to make an appearance for the Purple and White, overcoming a hit and recording a pair of strikeouts to turn in an unblemished frame.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Cruz now leads the team with a .417 batting average, while Tatrow is atop the team leaderboard with 15 in 12 games.
  • ACU was held without a home run for the first time in nine games, but the team is still averaging north of 11 hits per game.
  • Baylor is the first of three Big XII opponents to make a visit to Crutcher Scott Field this spring, as the Wildcats are set to host TCU on March 22 and Texas Tech on May 3.
  • The Wildcat pitching staff racked up 14 punchouts on Wednesday, marking the eighth time this season with at least ten.

UP NEXT:
  • Abilene Christian is set to open Western Athletic Conference play later this week with a visit to Edinburg to take on UTRGV. First pitch of Friday's series opener is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
