Wildcats walk off to split Saturday doubleheader

ABILENE, Texas – After dropping the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, the Abilene Christian softball team got their third walk-off win of the season in game two. Down to their last out, Avery Miloch stepped up and drove in two runs with an infield single to give the Wildcats the 4-3 victory.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: 
Game 1
  • SFA got on the board early with a two-run single in the top of the first.
  • The Ladyjacks put up another run in the top of the second, but the Wildcats answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning.
  • With two outs, the Wildcats strung together three hits to bring in the runs.
  • SFA would put up three more runs to earn the 6-3 win.
Game 2
  • The Wildcats were the first to strike in game two as they put up two runs in the bottom of the second.
  • Riley White singled down the left field line to bring home both Logan Gaspar and Miranda Lista.
  • A two-run homer from the Ladyjacks tied the game up at two in the top of the fifth.
  • SFA took the lead on a sac fly in the top of the sixth inning.
  • Mercedes Eichelberger reached base on an error to lead off the bottom of the seventh and freshman Rose Gonzales singled in the next at-bat to put two on for ACU.
  • Calie Burris laid down a sac bunt to advance the runners followed by a strikeout to leave the Wildcats down to their final out.
  • Avery Miloch sent a ball back up the middle deep behind second base and was safe at first on the throw allowing both runners to score to win in walk-off fashion.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Eichelberger's hitting streak came to an end in game one, but she extended her on-base streak to eight games.
  • Riley White went 2-3 as the designated player in game two of the doubleheader.
  • Sidney Holman-Mansell racked up eight more strikeouts in the complete game, tallying her fourth win of the year.
  • Miranda Lista and Matti Reiling each tallied triples on the day.
 
ON DECK: 
  • The Wildcats will play UIW in a doubleheader at home next Tuesday at 12 and 2 p.m. before heading on the road to Lamar for a weekend series.
