HUNTSVILLE, Texas – It was a Friday night sweep for the Wildcats as they opened the day with a dominant 12-2 win over the Bearkats before fighting back for a 4-3 win in the nightcap. The offense could not be stopped in game one and with their backs against the wall they came through again in game two.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1
- With the bases loaded in the top of the second, Mercedes Eichelberger drove in two runs with an RBI single to get things going for the Wildcats.
- Riley White hit an infield single to bring home another run to put ACU up 3-0 in the top of the second.
- With two outs and two on in the top of the third, Logan Gaspar doubled to bring a run home, putting ACU up 4-0.
- Eichelberger followed with a single to clear the bases and put the Wildcats on top 6-0.
- Miranda Davila drove in a run in the top of the fourth to give ACU the 7-0 advantage.
- Back-to-back two-out singles set the stage for Calie Burris to launch her third homerun of the year, pushing the Wildcat lead to 10-0 in the top of the fifth.
- Just two batters later, Matti Reiling sent one over the left field fence tacking on two more runs.
- The Bearkats would plate two runs in the bottom of the fifth but Sidney Holman-Mansell shut the door to give ACU the 12-2 run rule victory.
Game 2
- The Wildcats offense picked up where it left off in game one with three hits through the first four at bats, with Calie Burris driving in a run as ACU took the 1-0 lead.
- Sam Houston tied the game up with an RBI single in the bottom of the second.
- Burris answered right back in the top of the third with a solo shot to right field, retaking the lead 2-1.
- The Bearkats would tie the game in the bottom of the fifth with a sac fly and then took their first lead of the weekend with an RBI double in the same inning.
- Paige Harris led off the top of the seventh with a walk and Eichelberger followed with a double that brought home the tying run.
- Riley White doubled two batters later to bring home Eichelberger and give the Wildcats the 4-3 lead.
- Holman-Mansell made a rare relief appearance in the seventh and held the Bearkats at bay and earn the win.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Holman-Mansell moves to 10-8 on the season after picking up both wins, her ERA dropped to 2.34 on the year.
- Eichelberger has now reached base safely in 20-straight games. She drove in a career-high four RBI in game one and totaled five for the day.
- Calie Burris brought her season homerun total to four and now has five multi-RBI games on the year. She also leads the team with 10 multi-hit games on the season.
- The two wins secures three-straight conference series wins for the Wildcats.
ON DECK:
- The Wildcats and Bearkats will close out the series with a single game at 12 p.m. tomorrow. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
