Offense leads the way for Friday doubleheader sweep

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – It was a Friday night sweep for the Wildcats as they opened the day with a dominant 12-2 win over the Bearkats before fighting back for a 4-3 win in the nightcap. The offense could not be stopped in game one and with their backs against the wall they came through again in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1
  • With the bases loaded in the top of the second, Mercedes Eichelberger drove in two runs with an RBI single to get things going for the Wildcats.
  • Riley White hit an infield single to bring home another run to put ACU up 3-0 in the top of the second.
  • With two outs and two on in the top of the third, Logan Gaspar doubled to bring a run home, putting ACU up 4-0.
  • Eichelberger followed with a single to clear the bases and put the Wildcats on top 6-0.
  • Miranda Davila drove in a run in the top of the fourth to give ACU the 7-0 advantage.
  • Back-to-back two-out singles set the stage for Calie Burris to launch her third homerun of the year, pushing the Wildcat lead to 10-0 in the top of the fifth.
  • Just two batters later, Matti Reiling sent one over the left field fence tacking on two more runs.
  • The Bearkats would plate two runs in the bottom of the fifth but Sidney Holman-Mansell shut the door to give ACU the 12-2 run rule victory.

Game 2
  • The Wildcats offense picked up where it left off in game one with three hits through the first four at bats, with Calie Burris driving in a run as ACU took the 1-0 lead.
  • Sam Houston tied the game up with an RBI single in the bottom of the second.
  • Burris answered right back in the top of the third with a solo shot to right field, retaking the lead 2-1.
  • The Bearkats would tie the game in the bottom of the fifth with a sac fly and then took their first lead of the weekend with an RBI double in the same inning.
  • Paige Harris led off the top of the seventh with a walk and Eichelberger followed with a double that brought home the tying run.
  • Riley White doubled two batters later to bring home Eichelberger and give the Wildcats the 4-3 lead.
  • Holman-Mansell made a rare relief appearance in the seventh and held the Bearkats at bay and earn the win.

  • Calie Burris brought her season homerun total to four and now has five multi-RBI games on the year. She also leads the team with 10 multi-hit games on the season.
  • The two wins secures three-straight conference series wins for the Wildcats.
