ACU earns sweep in first-ever WAC match

Box Score LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The ACU men's tennis team opened Western Athletic Conference play on Friday, defeating Chicago State 4-0 at a neutral site.

QUOTABLE:
  • "Conference wins are never easy, so we are really excited to pick up our first one. Chicago State deserves a lot of credit, as they came out firing and made us earn it today," head coach Juan Nuñez said. "It was really good for our young guys to experience the extra intensity and rivalry that comes with playing a conference opponent. We are on to the next match now, and we are focused on continuing to get better." 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Savan Chhabra and Dario Kmet teamed up for a 6-1 victory in the second doubles flight, while Daniel Morozov and Tyler Stewart gave ACU the doubles point with a 6-3 win on Court 1. 
  • Kmet picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory for the first singles point of the afternoon, and Cesar Barranquero made it a 3-0 Wildcat lead with a 6-3, 6-2 win on Court 5. 
  • Stewart finished off the day in the second flight, doing so with a 7-6, 6-2 victory, giving the Purple and White their second sweep of the season.

  • The Wildcats look to continue to the momentum on Saturday, when they take on Seattle in another WAC matchup from Las Cruces.
