Wildcats close out doubleheader with 8-2 win over Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. – The ACU softball team split a midweek doubleheader against Tulsa on Wednesday, falling 4-1 in the opener before erupting for an 8-2 win on the back end.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1
  • Miranda Lista belted a home run over the wall in left to start the scoring in the top of the second, but the Golden Hurricane answered with two runs in the home half.
  • Tulsa added a run in the third and another in the fourth while holding the Wildcats scoreless the rest of the way.
  • Riley White went the distance in the circle for the Purple and White, doing so on just 48 pitches.

Game 2
  • The Wildcats struck first again in the nightcap, doing so with a double off the bat of Avery Miloch that plated Callie Burris from second.
  • Tulsa evened the score in the home half, but Sadie Eichelberger singled in the second to retake the lead for ACU.
  • Abilene Christian combined base hits from Miloch and White with two walks and two Tulsa errors to put up a six-spot in the final inning.
  • The Golden Hurricane got a run back in the bottom of the seventh, but the damage had been done, the Wildcats left Oklahoma with a split in hand.
  • Sidney Holman-Mansell gave the Wildcats their second complete game of the day, fanning eight hitters en route to her seventh win of the year.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Eichelberger has now reached base in 15 straight games, the highest mark of any Wildcat hitter so far this spring.
  • Miloch's 20 RBI are good enough for a team-high, and she has seven in her last three games.
  • Holman-Mansell lowered her season earned run average to 2.28, and she has picked up 78 strikeouts in 89.0 innings of work.

ON DECK:
  • The 'Cats are back in Western Athletic Conference action this weekend, hosting Tarleton for a three-game series at Poly Wells Field. First pitch on Friday night is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
