Holman-Mansell, White dominate in the circle for ACU

HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Wildcats got two stellar pitching performances on Friday as they earned wins over Montana and Hawaii. Sidney Holman-Mansell tossed a four-hit shutout in game one with Riley White following with a three-hit shutout of her own.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1 | ACU vs. Montana
  • The Grizzlies were the first to threaten with two runners on in the third but Sidney Holman-Mansell was able to work around the runners and get a ground out to end the inning.
  • ACU led off with back-to-back singles in the fourth, but were unable to bring a runner home.
  • It was all about the sixth inning for the Wildcats where they scored six of their eight runs. Mercedes Eichelberger was the first to reach base after being hit by a pitch and came around to score with a hit from Calie Burris.
  • A single from Sydney Kaiser followed by a double from Rose Gonzales led to another run scored before back-to-back walks with the bases loaded brought the score to 4-0.
  • Matti Reiling brought two more home with a double to get the score to 6-0 before the end of the inning.
  • Gonzales blasted a two-run bomb in the seventh to push the Wildcats lead to 8-0.
  • Holman-Mansell shut down the Grizzlies in the bottom of the seventh to earn the complete game shutout.

Game 2 | ACU vs. Hawaii
  • The Wildcats were on the board early after a Calie Burris single advanced Mercedes Eichelberger and then a throwing error allowed her to score.
  • Eichelberger scored again in the third inning, this time advancing on a single from Sydney Kaiser and scoring on a fielding error.
  • The Rainbow Wahine put two runners on in the bottom of the sixth but the Wildcats defense held to keep them scoreless.
  • Hawaii put another runner on in the seventh but White and the defense held for their second shutout of the day.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Holman-Mansell tossed her second shutout of the season while White notched her first of the year and second of her career.
  • Rose Gonzales hit her first career homerun and had her first multi-RBI game in the win over Montana.
  • Calie Burris extended her streak of getting on base to six games. She went 4-8 on the day with an RBI.

ON DECK:
  • The Wildcats will play two more tomorrow with times to be determined based on the result of a final game being played Friday night. With a 2-1 record through three games, ACU will likely grab the two-seed and would play at 2 p.m. CT tomorrow.
