ACU STORYLINES

  • WHERE WE STAND IN THE WAC
    • ACU resides in fifth place in the WAC standings entering Saturday, a half game back of Utah Valley (9-6) at 8-6 in league play. The fourth spot is so highly valued going into the conference tournament in Las Vegas, because the top four seeds are automatically exempt into the quarterfinal round of the bracket. The top two seeds go automatically to the semifinal round, so a top-four seed could go a long way to the success of the teams in WAC Vegas.
  • #20 IN THE PROGRAM, #1 IN YOUR HEART
    • Grad transfer Jamie Bonnarens (#20) has been unbelievably consistent this season. The Colorado State transfer has led ACU in every which way in 2021-22, and it continued with another 20-point outing against Sam Houston on Feb. 17. Bonnarens scored 24 points, one off her season-high, and now has 18 double-digit scoring games and four 20-point contests this season. Bonnarens is averaging 14.7 points per game, the fourth-highest total in the WAC, and is shooting 43.7% from distance, the best in the league and the 13th-highest mark in the nation.
  • EARLE MAKING HER CASE
    • Bella Earle was named the WAC Freshman of the Week for the second time this season after her 15-point outing against Sam Houston. Earle has definitely made a strong case for WAC Freshman of the Year this season, averaging 7.6 points and 3.9 rebounds per game, and is shooting 48.9 percent from the floor. The rook’s 17 points at Chicago State were a new career-high, hitting just 4-of-5 shots, but all three of her three-pointers. Earle went 6-of-7 at the foul line, and added a career-best five assists to go with four rebounds. She has scored 32 points in her last two games.
  • SENIOR DAY
    • ACU will honor its six seniors after the game Saturday. The three grad transfers, Tatum Barber, Jamie Bonnarens, and Emma Middleton join program veterans Madi Miller, Kamryn Mraz, and Paige Emborsky on the floor to be recognized for their achievements at ACU.
  • PROGRAM MILESTONE
    • The victory over UTRGV for the Wildcats was the 900th as a program. ACU started women’s basketball in 1971, and is in its 51st season on the hardwood. The ‘Cats have averaged almost 18 wins per season to date.
  • THREE-POINT PARTY
    • ACU has hit 236 three-pointers so far this season, the 11th-highest mark in the nation. The Wildcats have 12 games with double-digit makes from distance. The team ranks 24th nationally with a 35.7 clip from behind the arc, which was moved back to match the men’s line in the off-season.
  • COACH GOODENOUGH’S MILESTONES
    • Head coach Julie Goodenough coached her 800th career game against Chicago State, and has earned 487 career victories, including 198 as the coach at ACU. Goodenough is in her 28th season overall and her 10th with the Wildcats.

SCOUTING SFA (23-3, 14-0 WAC)

  • The Ladyjacks have not lost a conference game since March 2020. SFA went undefeated in the Southland Conference last season, and sit undefeated in the new WAC this season. Who did SFA last lose to? ACU. The Wildcats won the game in the final game in old Moody Coliseum, winning 88-62 on March 3, 2020.
  • SFA ranks No. 20 in scoring offense nationally at 75.7 points per game, but the calling card is the 2-3 zone defense that allows just 54.0 points per game, the 13th-best mark in the country.
  • Four players average in double figures for the Ladyjacks, led by Aiyana Johnson's 14.2 PPG. Stephanie Visscher (13.8), Zya Nugent (11.5), and Avery Brittingham (10.5) join her above the 10 PPG mark.

SCOUTING LAMAR (11-12, 6-8 WAC)

  • Lamar will host Tarleton on Saturday before squaring off with ACU for the second time this season.
  • The Cardinals have dropped four in a row, falling to California Baptist, Seattle U, and Sam Houston at home before a road loss at SFA.
  • Akasha Davis leads the way with 12.8 points per game, while Sabria Dean isn't far behind at 12.1 per contest.
