Wildcats crush four HR's on way to 2-0 day

MELISSA, Texas – Abilene Christian came away with two wins on the opening day of the Tracy Beard College Classic. The Wildcats opened the day with a walk-off win over Nevada and followed it up with the 4-0 shutout of Colorado State. Riley White and Sidney Holman-Mansell each picked up complete game wins and Avery Miloch accounted for five RBI on the day.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: 
Game 1 | ACU vs. Nevada
  • The Wolf Pack got on the board early after their leadoff batter reached on an error, stole second, and then came home on another error in an attempt to steal third.
  • Sydney Kaiser homered in the bottom of the fifth, driving in Shaylee Alani to put the Wildcats up 2-1.
  • With two outs and a runner on in the top of the seventh, Nevada hit a homerun to retake the lead 3-2.
  • Shaylee Alani led off the bottom of the seventh with a solo shot to center to tie the game.
  • Avery Miloch hit a walk-off homerun in the next at-bat to give ACU the 4-3 win.
 
Game 2 | ACU vs. Colorado State
  • Matti Reiling and Sadie Eichelberger led off with back-to-back walks in the first inning. Both advanced on a wild pitch and Avery Miloch brought the pair home with a double as the Wildcats took the early 2-0 lead.
  • Sidney Holman-Mansell worked out of a bases-loaded jam in both the third and fourth innings to keep the Rams scoreless.
  • Eichelberger doubled to lead of the bottom of the sixth inning and with two outs it was Miloch once again who hit her second homerun of the day to give the Wildcats a 4-0 lead.
  • Holman-Mansell sat down the final three batters for the Rams to secure the complete game shutout.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Miloch accounted for five of the eight RBI for the Wildcats on the day, and all four runs scored against CSU.
  • Both White and Holman-Mansell moved to 2-2 on the season and each totaled seven strikeouts in their respective games.
  • White's seven K's blew past her previous career-high of four in a game against Southeastern Louisiana.
  • The four RBI for Miloch against the Rams was also a career-high.
  • Kaiser's homerun was the first of her career and the first extra-base hit of her career.
 
ON DECK: 
  • ACU has a quick turnaround and will face Colorado State once again tomorrow at 12 p.m. The team will then take on North Texas at 5 p.m. All games are played at the Melissa Sports Complex.
