ABILENE – The ACU women’s basketball team returns to the Teague Center this week for two pivotal matchups to close out the month of January. The Wildcats (12-7, 4-4 WAC) look to get back to their winning ways against UTRGV on Thursday, Jan. 27, before closing the weekend with a familiar foe in Lamar on Saturday, Jan. 29. Thursday night's game tips at 6 p.m., and Saturday's matinee begins at 1 p.m. Saturday's game is Alumni Day for the team as they welcome back players from years past. Both games will air on ESPN+ this weekend.

ACU STORYLINES

  • BARBER’S DOUBLE-DOUBLE
    • Grad transfer Tatum Barber recorded her second double-double of the season at California Baptist, tallying 13 points and 11 rebounds. Barber put together a 15 and 10 performance against McMurry on Dec. 21.
  • MILLER’S DOUBLE-DOUBLE
    • Senior Madi Miller recorded the first double-double of her career Saturday at CBU, scoring 15 points and hauling in 10 rebounds. The fourth-year Wildcat put together a career-high effort with the 10 boards in the loss.
  • UNDER MY UM-BELLA, BELLA, BELLA
    • Freshman Bella Earle had a career-night against New Mexico State, scoring 16 points, and matching a career-high with seven rebounds. She also played a career-high 33 minutes. Earle has now scored in double figures four of the last five games, and five times total this season.
  • PROGRAM MILESTONE
    • The next win for the Wildcats will be the 900th as a program. ACU started women’s basketball in 1971, and is in its 51st season on the hardwood. The ‘Cats have averaged almost 18 wins per season to date.
  • THREE-POINT PARTY
    • ACU has hit 190 three-pointers so far this season, the fifth-highest mark in the nation. The Wildcats have 11 games with double-digit makes from distance, including 22 total makes this past weekend. The team ranks 33rd nationally with a 35.4 clip from behind the arc, which was moved back to match the men’s line in the off-season.
  • SHARP SHOOTER
    • Kamryn Mraz has been outstanding from behind the arc this season. The fourth-year Wildcat is hitting 44.2 percent of her looks, the 17th-best mark in the country. Mraz has 34 makes from downtown, and is hitting 2.0 three’s per game.
  • COACH GOODENOUGH’S MILESTONES
    • Head coach Julie Goodenough earned her 483rd career win against New Mexico State, and her 194th as the coach at ACU. Goodenough is in her 28th season overall and her 10th with the Wildcats.

SCOUTING UTRGV (7-11, 3-3 WAC)

  • The Vaqueros are coming off a home split last weekend against Utah Valley and Dixie State, and then played a make-up game with Sam Houston on Monday night, falling 66-52. UTRGV has wins over Dixie State, Chicago State, and Grand Canyon in WAC play this season.
  • UTRGV is led by Taylor Muff, who averages 13.5 points per game, and Sara Bershers, who is just shy of that at 13.1 per contest.

SCOUTING LAMAR (9-7, 4-3 WAC)

  • The Cardinals are coming off a home sweep over Dixie State and Utah Valley, and are over .500 in league play for the first time this season.
  • Lamar is led offensively by Akasha Davis (13.2 PPG) and Sabria Dean (13.1 PPG), and the calling card is still the pressure defense, led by Dean's 24 steals.
