ABILENE – ACU men's basketball has finalized their schedule for the 2021-22 season, their inaugural season of WAC play. First year head coach Brette Tanner has put together a tough non-conference slate to open the season, including the previously announced BahaMar Nassau Championship the week of Thanksgiving. The Wildcats will see two Power 5 opponents and 10 total DI non-conference opponents before diving into a tough WAC schedule beginning in late December.
Familiar foes such as SFA, Sam Houston, and Lamar will be on the schedule twice for the Wildcats. ACU will also face Tarleton, Dixie State, and UTRGV twice during WAC play. The WAC tournament will be held in Las Vegas once again with the tournament expanding to 10 teams and will be held March 9-12.
As previously released, the Wildcats will participate in the 2021 Nassau Championship in The Bahamas Nov. 22-24. ACU's first round opponent will be Jacksonville State with the game tipping at 6:30 p.m. CT on Nov. 22. The tournament is set up as bracket play with Charlotte, Toledo, Coastal Carolina, Drexel, Tulane and Valparaiso rounding out the field.
This could be one of the toughest non-conference schedules we have played in my time at ACU. Not only are we playing a high level of competition, we are spending most of the month of November on the road. The great news is we have some high quality opponents coming to Abilene in December that I think our fans are really going to enjoy watching us compete against.Head coach Brette Tanner
