THIBODAUX, La.—The Wildcats began their weekend in Louisiana with a doubleheader against Nicholls on Friday afternoon. ACU would take game one in extra innings before falling 3-1 in the second game for a split on the day.
Game 1
ACU got out to a quick start in the first game of the day.
Val Rudd drew a walk in the top of the first inning and got her fourth steal of the season to move to second.
Shaylee Alani and
Calie Burris would follow with back-to-back doubles that gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead. The Colonels would plate a single run in both the fourth and sixth innings to tie the game and eventually send it to extra innings. With two outs in the top of the eighth,
Kayla Keeling launched her fourth homerun of the year to give ACU the lead. The Colonels would get a one-out double in the bottom of the inning, but
Samantha Bradley and the Wildcats defense held firm to seal the win.
Game 2
It was another close game in the back half of the doubleheader this time with the Colonels taking an early lead. After getting a runner to third in the first inning, an error allowed Nicholls to score their first run. In the top of the fourth, Bradley launched her fifth homerun of the season to tie the game at one. The Colonels broke the tie in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI double to give them a 3-1 lead which held as the final score.
Stat pack
- The Wildcats were aggressive on the basepaths totaling five stolen bases on the day with four coming in game one.
- Rudd went 2-4 on the day with a double as well as drawing three walks. She was 2-2 on stolen bases and is 5-5 on stolen bases on the year.
- The win in game one snapped an 11-game losing streak for the Wildcats.
- Bradley had her first multi-hit game since the series finale at Houston Baptist.
- The Wildcats are on a streak of 17 stolen bases without being caught stealing. The last time a runner was caught stealing was at home against UNT on March 30.
