Wildcats homer three times in series finale

ABILENE—ACU closed out their series with Sam Houston on Saturday afternoon and despite launching three homeruns on the day, fell 9-5 to the Bearkats. The Wildcats took an early 2-0 lead, but once again a big inning for SHSU helped them take the lead and hold on for the series sweep.

Paige Harris earned her first-career start in the circle and made it through the Bearkats lineup once without surrendering a run. Sam Houston put together three singles in the top of the third inning to load the bases and took a 3-2 lead on a bases-clearing double. Alivia Sinnott relieved Harris and two batters later gave up a two-run homer that gave the Bearkats a 5-2 lead. The Wildcats would get solo shots from both Donelle Johnson and Avery Miloch that helped to cut into the SHSU lead, but each time the Bearkats had an answer. ACU threatened in the bottom of the seventh, plating a single run, but came up just short when Sam Houston snagged a line drive to end the game.

  • Johnson's homerun was her first since May 5, 2018, also a solo homerun, in a game against SFA.

  • The Wildcats now have 31 total homeruns on the season, the fifth-most in a season since making the jump to DI.
  • After going 2-3 at the plate, Val Rudd is leading the Wildcats with 27 hits on the year.
