WSOC off to Louisiana and Arkansas this weekend

NATCHITOCHES, La. & CONWAY, Ark. – The Wildcat soccer team heads to Louisiana and Arkansas for the final two road games in league play this season when they take on Northwestern State and Central Arkansas. ACU (8-5-2, 4-3-1 SLC) battles the Lady Demons on Thursday, April 1 at 7 p.m. before closing the weekend against the Sugar Bears on Saturday, April 3 at 1 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY

vs. NORTHWESTERN STATE

ACU is 5-1-1 all-time against Northwestern State, with the lone loss in the series coming in 2016. The teams tied last season in Abilene, 1-1, on Oct. 4, 2019. ACU is 2-1 all-time in Natchitoches, La.


vs. CENTRAL ARKANSAS

The Wildcats hold a 4-2-2 all-time edge over the Sugar Bears, and ACU has won each of the last two meetings. ACU won 4-1 last season, but the Wildcats have never won in Conway. ACU is 0-1-2 all-time in Arkansas, with the ties coming in 2014 and 2016.

ACU STORYLINES

  • PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Senior Christina Arteaga was named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week after scoring two goals against Nicholls on Friday. It was her first multi-score game of the season and fifth of her career. Arteaga tallied 14 shot attempts in two games, including eight Friday. Arteaga also moved into the 300 shot attempts club, now sits at 302 for her career, the most in program history. The senior also ranks ninth in Southland Conference history with 35 career goals.
  • ERIN SMITH: Senior Erin Smith moved into third in ACU history with 163 career saves, and is second in wins with 23. Smith has tied Rachel Johnson for the most career shutouts with 14, and has started 42 games in a Wildcat uniform, the most in program history.
  • LEADING DEFENSIVELY: Alyssia Anuat had a great weekend on the backline for ACU, guiding a defense to a pair of shutouts. It was the fifth and sixth shutouts of the year for the team, and Anuat was in the middle of it all, playing 186 minutes in two games. Anuat guides a defense that has steadily improved all season long.

SCOUTING NORTHWESTERN STATE (8-1-1, 6-1-1 SLC)

  • The Lady Demons have not had a game on the schedule for 10 days.
  • NSU is led by its goaltender Acelya Aydogmus. She has six shutouts on the season, which is just one shy of the single-season program record.
  • Aydogmus has played every minute in net and surrendered just four scores. She has made 30 saves and her GAA of 0.39 is currently shattering the school's best mark.
  • Junior Kalee Williams leads the team with four goals, however, she missed the last two games because of injury. Sophomore Olivia Draquicevich has logged three goals, while six different players have scored one goal this season.

SCOUTING CENTRAL ARKANSAS (12-7-1, 3-5-0 SLC)

  • The Sugar Bears have dropped four of their last five, including a pair two weekends ago at McNeese and Lamar.
  • Emma Hawkins leads the way as one of the top scorers in the nation, tallying 13 goals this season.
  • Sydney Brough has six goals scored as well.
  • Reagan McCombs has recorded 63 saves this season in net, starting all 19 matches.
