Mueller notches double-double at SHSU

HUNTSVILLE, Texas— The Wildcats faced the second-place Bearkats of Sam Houston on Saturday afternoon looking to get the upset and secure a place in the Southland Conference Tournament. ACU was able to take the third set after falling behind, 0-2, but SHSU bounced back to earn the win in four. Despite the loss, the Wildcats were still able to clinch their spot in the Southland Tournament.
 
The teams traded points from the first serve but the Wildcats were able to get some separation early going up 14-10 in the first set. Sam Houston was able to slowly get back in the game and used a four-point run to break a 17-17 tie to shift momentum in their favor. The Bearkats took set one, but the battle continued through the next two sets. Sam Houston took set two to grab the commanding 2-0 set lead, but the Wildcats pushed back in set three.
 
The Bearkats took an early 6-3 lead in the third set but the Wildcats dominated the next several points going on a 14-4 run that helped them to a 17-10 lead. SHSU was able to get back into the match late, and even came within one point, 24-23, but Katelyn Mueller put down a kill to secure the win for the Wildcats. Sam Houston hit .435 on their way to a dominant fourth set win to take the match.

  • Kate Blasingame and Logan Browning each hit the double-digit mark for digs on the afternoon with 11 and 10, respectively.
