Wildcats host Nicholls and Southeastern this weekend

ABILENE – The Wildcat soccer team returns to Elmer Gray Stadium for the first time since March 7 when they host a pair of Southland games. ACU (7-5-1, 3-3-0 SLC) hosts Senior Night against the Nicholls Colonels on Friday night at 7 p.m. before closing the weekend with the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Wildcats will honor their six seniors prior to the match on Friday against Nicholls.

SERIES HISTORY

vs. NICHOLLS

ACU leads the all-time series with the Colonels, 5-2, and the 'Cats have won two straight against Nicholls. ACU won 8-0 in Thibodaux last year, setting numerous program records in the victory. The Wildcats are 3-0 all-time in Abilene against the Colonels.


vs. SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA

The Wildcats have dominated the series with the Lady Lions, leading it 6-1 all-time. ACU has won four straight against SLU, and has only allowed two total goals ever in the seven games. ACU has won three straight 1-0 affairs against SLU, and has only scored eight total goals in the seven games all-time.

ACU STORYLINES

  • HONORING THEIR SENIORS: ACU will honor its eight seniors on Friday night prior to the game against Nicholls. Elizabeth Folsom, Brittany Harris, Isa Sanabria, Erin Smith, Ashley Stamps, and Gabby Symmank have played a huge role in the success of ACU soccer. This class has won 42 games and seen remarkable success, including the 2018 Southland Conference Tournament Championship and the school's first appearance in the NCAA Division I Tournament.
  • THE RECORD BOOKS: Senior Christina Arteaga ranks second in ACU's history in career points with 80 and career goals with 33, and is in sole possession of first place in career shots on goal with 139 and career shots with 289. Arteaga has scored a team-high four goals this season.
  • SMITH SETTING RECORDS: Senior Erin Smith moved into third in ACU history with 162 career saves, and is tied for second in wins with Sydney Newton with 22. Smith has tied Elliott London for the most starts in the programs history as well with 41. Smith ranks third in shutouts with 11.

SCOUTING NICHOLLS (0-11-0, 0-6-0 SLC)

  • Nicholls is coming off a non-conference loss to Louisiana back on March 18.
  • The Colonels have struggled on offense this season, having not scored a goal.
  • Koryn Barrett leads the way with 15 shot attempts.

SCOUTING SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA (3-2-1, 3-2-1 SLC)

  • The Lady Lions did not play during the fall, and have been efficient in the spring, coming off back-to-back wins against SFA and McNeese at home on March 7 and 12. SLU had last week off before making the trip to Abilene this weekend.
  • Mya Guillory leads the way with four goals this season, and has a team-high 20 shot attempts.
  • Nadine Maher is the goalkeeper for SLU, recording 31 saves in 592 minutes.
