ABILENE -- Abilene Christian returns to the links Monday for the start of The Big Texan Invitational. The Wildcats and 10 other participating teams will be playing at Comanche Trace (Kerrville, Texas), which is a par 72 and plays 7,059 yards. The golfers will be playing 36 holes on Monday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start and the final 18 holes on Tuesday starting with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
Joining the Wildcats there will be New Mexico State, Seton Hall, Houston Baptist, New Orleans, Incarnate Word, Prairie View A&M, Texas Southern, Chicago State, Odessa College and hosts UTRGV.
ACU's quintet will be composed of senior Alex Clouse, junior Francisco Osio, sophomore Zane Heusel, sophomore Logan Diomede and senior Jake Bay.
Clouse, Osio and Heusel all were with head coach Tom Shaw during their most recent outing at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate, where the Wildcats rallied to place second at 35-over 887. On the third and final day of the tournament Osio finished 4-under 67, while Clouse carded an even par to tie for second place at 4-over 217. Osio's third-round performance also was the lowest single round (-4) for any of the tournament's 71 competitors. He finished 11th overall.
For Diomede, this is his second tournament with the Wildcats for the 2020-21 season but last week he tied for second among 47 competitors at the Prairie View A&M Relays Invitational with rounds of 72, 68 and 70. Bay also was there and he placed sixth behind rounds of 67-74-74.
Bay made the Wildcats' lineup twice during the fall, competing at the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate and Little Rock Invitational. He carded a 68 during the first round of the Little Rock Invitational.
